Join Slim Peace, a healthy lifestyle and nutrition group of Palestinian and Israeli women.
Intended participants: Women of all ages from East/West Jerusalem and the West Bank area who want to lose weight and to improve their eating and nutritional habits.
Each group meets once a week for 10 weeks. Our 10th group begins January 19, 2010. The meetings will take place on Tuesday 17:00-19:00 (with consideration of Jewish/Christian/Muslim holidays), at the YMCA in Jerusalem (26 King David Street).
Our second Slim Peace Teen group for girls age 16 begins on January 21, 2010. The meetings will take place on Thursday 17:00-19:00 (with consideration of Jewish/Christian/Muslim holidays), at the YMCA in Jerusalem (26 King David Street). Each group meets once a week for 10 weeks.
Our first ever Slim Peace women group begins in Acre on January 19, 2010. The meetings will take place at the Sir Charles Clore Arab Jewish Community Center.
Slim Peace Teens is run by Palestinian dietitian and facilitator, Ms. Suha Khoury (MNT), and an Israeli facilitator, Ms. Jill Levenfeld.
COURSE OUTLINE
Session one
The benefits of the Mediterranean diet for your health. Learn how to plan your meals using the Mediterranean diet foods.
Session two
Healthy lifestyle and nutrition recommendations. Sorting out fad diets from evidence-based nutrition guidelines.
Session three
Find out the proper balance between calorie intake with physical activity. Design ways for meeting the requirements for fruits and vegetables intake. Distribution of pedometers.
Session four
Learn about the negative impact of fiber deficiency on your health. Determine the changes that you need to make in order to increase your fiber intake.
Session five
The challenge of eating the appropriate amount and type of fat. Label reading. Recipe modification. Principles of healthy cooking.
Session six
Explore the situation of women in the world, their special qualities and the specific nutrients they need.
Session seven
Mindful eating. Overcoming powerful habits. Managing lapses, relapses, and collapses.
Session eight
Integrate all the nutrition and physical activity recommendations into your lifestyle. Explore what you need to introduce into your life in order to move closer to your goals.
Session nine
Investigate your resources for maintaining success and achieving sustainability. Connect to your inner power. Learn about your individual techniques for dealing with challenges.
Session ten
The power of positive thinking. Sharing a joint healthy group meal together. Closure.
Participants will be charged 300 NIS at registration and 50 NIS will be refunded at the conclusion of the program.
A discount is available for those in need; Please apply as soon as possible. Slim Peace Groups is a nonprofit program; fees are to cover expenses only.
